New Site Format
As you know
StampedeProject has
become way more than
just Stampede, Traxxas,
to now include other
RC brands, accessories,
and cars. I still don't sell
anything, I just
enthusiastically promote
those RC products I think
are great.
Take a look through
the above links.
I simply had too much
information for my
old site format.
More fun projects
coming...

How to Gear your RC Rig
Properly Gearing your Traxxas Stampede, Rustler
or Bandit
Stock Spur (the big gear)
is:
Stampede 87
Rustler 84
Bandit 78
Stock Pinion (the little
gear) with the stock Stinger 20 Turn motor is:
Stampede 18
Rustler 18
Bandit 18
Gearing "5 second" Rule for after market motors
The "5 second
rule", if you CAN hold you finger on the motor and ESC for over 5 seconds without getting
scorched after a little bashing then you have geared properly otherwise drop a tooth or so on the pinion.
This applies to any motor type.
550 Motors
It would seem that gearing rule for the larger sized 550 motors would be 7 teeth more than the turns which was confirmed with my Ultra-Rusty running absolutely fabulously with a 550 Monster Max Wild 17T geared 24/84 and the new Titan 12T being geared with a 19 tooth stock pinion in the new Pede (if I remember correctly).
540 Motors - Normal Size
The normal 540 motors should stick to a pinion gear (the small one) with
the 2 teeth less than the number of turns on the motor. As an
example, I ran a 15T Trinity Titanite for quite a while and normally geared it a 13/87 with road driving geared at 15/87 for speed but heat must be monitored.
Brushless Motors
Start with a 12 Tooth pinion and a 87 tooth Spur and see how that
goes. Chances are that with the crazy torque and speed of a
brushless motor you probably won't want to go beyond a 17 tooth pinion
with a 87 tooth spur.
